| This is a documentation subpage for Template:3OR. It contains usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
Template:Substituted This template provides a standard formatted response to a WP:3O request.
Contents
Usage
The behaviour of this template changes depending on whether one or two unnamed parameters are included. See the following usage scenarios:
Full use, repeating the original request:
{{subst:3OR | 1=<response> | 2=<text of opinion requested> | d=<anything> }}
Shorter use, with only a text reply:
{{subst:3OR | 1=<response> }}
Use to set a temporary placeholder:
{{subst:3OR | 1=wait | 2=<optional text of opinion requested> }}
A signature will be added automatically.
Note, the response text can be multi-line with bullets and indenting as you see fit. The response text will be slightly indented but preserve the standard layout options you add.
Parameters
- d - This optional parameter adds a standard introductory disclaimer paragraph to the reply if set to any text.
- While the unnamed parameters
1=needn't be named always like how it's shown here, it does prevent the template from breaking in some instances. Say, if the text argument contains "=", it would not function. This can be unintentionally added when trying to add links to diffs, revisions and some external links. Thus{{subst:3OR |I think 1+1=2 is a right equation.}}or{{subst:3OR|I agree with this [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template%3A3OR%2Fdoc&type=revision&diff=402582748&oldid=394699973 diff]}}won't work without naming the parameters. - Note: if using "wait", per the usual talk page guidelines, be sure mention the date of your original post as well when replacing it with your response.
