Kelmscott Roos were formed in 1969.

A man by the name of Brian Robb, and a couple of friends, decided to form a soccer club,  and ‘Hey Presto’, Kelmscott Roos Soccer Club was born…and we’re still here. Our first game was against Mandurah – we had to borrow a couple of kids from the local school because we were short of players.

Our original colours were white shirts with claret and blue strips across the chest, white shorts and blue socks (as seen below).

After 4 years of playing in the Amateur Premier Division (finishing 6th in 1970, 3rd in 1971, and 2nd in 1972), Kelmscott entered the Semi-Professional Second Division in 1973.

Then, finishing 6th, 10th, 3rd and 10th in the respective years after, in Kelmscott’s fifth year of Semi Professional Second Division football, we finished first in 1977 – which brought us up to the Semi Professional First Division. This is where we remained until 1985, when we finished 2nd and were promoted to the Semi Professional Premier League…and we did have a good cup run in 1980.

First Round Proper

The surviving twenty two teams were now joined by the State League Clubs who must come in every year with some apprehension, as each season sees some of them falling by the wayside at the hands of a lower division team. 1980 was no exception. Gosnells, still smarting from their exit last year at the hands of fourth division Dianella, were further embarrassed when second division Kelmscott beat them at Frye Park.

Second Round

Gallant Highgate Chindits from the Amateurs found the jungle of Federation too dense to penetrate further, and were beaten by Kelmscott.

Quarter Finals

Azzurri breathed a sigh of relief when they walked off the field at Kelmscott. They were taken to extra time by the enthusiastic second division team, and it was only a hotly disputed penalty given by referee Eddie Evans that finally clinched the victory for the Perth team by three goals to two.

In 1985, Kelmscott managed to secure a quality player by the name of Trevor Brooking. When he played for the Roos he was just plain Trevor Brooking, but he did go on to become Sir Trevor Brooking…I think it may have been his Kelmscott appearances that was a deciding factor on him becoming a ‘Knight of the Realm’.

He was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1981, elevated to Commander of same order (CBE) in 1999, and knighted in 2004.

About this template

This template is used to identify a stub about an Australian association football club. It uses {{asbox}}, which is a meta-template designed to ease the process of creating and maintaining stub templates.

Usage

Typing {{Australia-footyclub-stub}} produces the message shown at the beginning, and adds the article to the following category:

General information

This is a stub template. A brief explanation of these templates follows; for full details please consult Wikipedia:Stub.

What is a stub?

A stub is an article containing only a few sentences of text which is too short to provide encyclopedic coverage of a subject.

How is a stub identified?

  • If possible, try to find the most appropriate stub template for the article. A full list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/List of stubs.
  • More than one stub template may be used, if necessary, though no more than four should be used on any article.
  • Place a stub template at the very end of the article, after the "External links" section, any navigation templates, and the category tags. As usual, templates are added by including their name inside double braces, e.g. {{stub}}.

Further information

Further information can be found at:

New stub templates and categories (collectively "stub types") should not be created without prior proposal at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. This allows for the proper coordination of all stub types across Wikipedia, and for the checking of any new stub type for possible problems prior to its creation.
