A documented feature in the [[MediaWiki]] software causes an error message when this template is used with unnamed parameters if the vnum contains an equals sign. For example [[Mount Kerinci|Kerinci]], a volcano in [[Indonesia]], has a vnum of <tt><nowiki>0601-17&#61;</nowiki></tt>. When such a vnum occurs a citation like <tt><nowiki>{{cite gvp|0601-17=|Kerinci</nowiki>}}</tt> will result in an error message. However, <tt><nowiki>{{cite gvp|vnum=0601-17=|name=Kerinci}}</nowiki></tt> or even <tt><nowiki>{{cite gvp|1=0601-17=|2=Kerinci}}</nowiki></tt> will work. For example:

<tt><nowiki>{{cite gvp|1=0601-17=|2=Kerinci}}</nowiki></tt> → {{cite gvp|1=0601-17=|2=Kerinci}}

This citation template can be used to cite Global Volcanism Program web pages using a "Volcano Number".

Usage

A search engine can be found here. If the name contains "Mount", "Peak" or something similar, enter the name without the designation. For example, for "Mount Hood" enter Hood. For Volcán de Fuego, enter Fuego.

Parameters Value
{{cite gvp
| vn =
| name =
| accessdate =
}}

Volcano Number on web page
