This template should be used when the article appears to be written like a news article or a press release. It is used when the article may not be promotional or overly-negative, but is still unencyclopedic in tone.
Contents
Placement
Place at the top of the article or sections or both to alert editors.
Usage
- articles
- For articles needing major clean-up, place
{{Cleanup-PR|article}}at the top of the main page. - For articles needing minor clean-up, place
{{Cleanup-PR|article}}at the top of the talk page.
- sections
- To mark specific sections instead of the whole article, place
{{Cleanup-PR|section}}at the top of the section.
- remarks
- To replace the text "article or section", supply a first argument, e.g.
{{Cleanup-PR|article}}{{Cleanup-PR|section}} - To replace the text "a press release", you may use
{{Cleanup-PR|article/section|yourtext}}or{{Cleanup-PR|2=yourtext}} - You may use the optional date parameter, e.g.
{{Cleanup-PR|date=November 2025}}. This helps with the categorization of articles requiring attention. - The simplest way to add this template to an article is to copy and paste
{{Cleanup-PR|date=November 2025}}at the top of the article or talk page. - Add a new item to the talk page explaining the problem so editors will know what to address, and when to remove this tag.
- This template adds articles to Category:Articles with a promotional tone
Notes
- This template will add tagged articles to Category:Articles with a promotional tone.
- This template is a self-reference.
- Please do not subst: this template.

- If you are unsure that a subject is notable:
- Tag it with {{notability}}. But an IP may then silently remove the tag. So:
- Also nominate it at Articles for deletion in order to find out what others think.
- If it was created by a single-purpose account, say so; also, tag it with {{autobiography}}.
- If a subject is not notable, use {{notability}} plus either Articles for deletion or G11 speedy deletion.
