Network coordinates (NC) system is an efficient mechanism for Internet distance prediction with scalable measurements. All nodes in Pharos form two levels of overlays, namely base overlay for long link prediction, and local cluster overlay for short link prediction. Vivaldi algorithm is applied to both base overlay and local cluster. As a result, each Pharos node has two sets of coordinates. The coordinates calculated in the base overlay, which is named global NC, is used for the global scale, and the coordinates calculated in the corresponding local cluster, which is named local NC, covers a smaller range of distance.

To form the local cluster, Pharos uses a method similar to binning and chooses some nodes called anchors to help node clustering. This method only requires a one-time measurement (with possible periodic refreshes) by the client to a small, fixed set of anchors. Any stable nodes which are able to response ICMP ping message can serve as anchor, such as the existing DNS servers.

Stub hierarchy

About this template

This template is used to identify a computer networking stub. It uses {{asbox}}, which is a meta-template designed to ease the process of creating and maintaining stub templates.

Usage

Typing {{Compu-network-stub}} produces the message shown at the beginning, and adds the article to the following category:

This is a stub template. A brief explanation of these templates follows; for full details please consult Wikipedia:Stub.

What is a stub?

A stub is an article containing only a few sentences of text which is too short to provide encyclopedic coverage of a subject.

How is a stub identified?

  • If possible, try to find the most appropriate stub template for the article. A full list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/List of stubs.
  • More than one stub template may be used, if necessary, though no more than four should be used on any article.
  • Place a stub template at the very end of the article, after the "External links" section, any navigation templates, and the category tags. As usual, templates are added by including their name inside double braces, e.g. {{stub}}.
