William Keiller

  • ... that one of the earliest accounts of the use of cocaine for spinal anaesthesia was given by William Keiller, anatomy professor at Galveston, Texas? Source: Keiller's paper on the use of cocaine in spinal anesthesia was published shortly after the pioneering papers by Bier in Germany and Matas in the USA. Keiller, William (1900). • Symbol question.svg. Reviewing. Please check copyvio [1]new enough (moved from sandbox), long enough. I'll complete later. Whispyhistory (talk) 10:54, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
  • Thanks for that review Template:Ping. Text reworded and Earwig now shows only duplication of names, institutions and dates but not text. Papamac (talk) 14:45, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
  • Thank you, looking good. Copyvio ok. "Keiller's paper on the use of cocaine in spinal anaesthesia was published shortly after the pioneering papers by Bier in Germany and Matas in the USA."...Is that what is written in the inline citations you used? If not, can you cite this sentence with another source or think of alternative hook? Your hook is in your article, but the hook fact in the article also needs to be in the source used for the inline citation. The other sources state he pioneered in local anaesthetics without mentioning cocaine. The information may be in one of the 'subscription required' sources Whispyhistory (talk) 18:17, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
  • Thanks Template:Ping The hook fact that he used cocaine is in the title of the source paper, which I thought would satisfy the criteria. If this doesn't you've suggested using an alternative. What about:
  • ALT 1...in 1891, William Keiller introduced to Galveston the practise of preserving dead bodies for dissection with formalin. Source:In 1891 he became a professor at UTMB where he taught anatomy for forty years, with a particular interest in neuroanatomy. …….He introduced the formalin method of preserving bodies used for dissection [2]Papamac (talk) 06:06, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
  • ALT 1 is okay, thanks. Looking at Keiller in more detail, you could do something with the cocaine if you show he wrote about it in 1900, shortly after Bier's (cocainization of the spinal cord, 1899) or think of an alternative hook. There is no hurry. It has to be supported in the article.
  • Are there any other supporting references?
  • Also, as a note, he is really interesting...not for dyk but in general, I found a lot when I searched and you may wish to add some of his publications etc. Whispyhistory (talk) 19:21, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
Thanks again Template:Ping. I've incorporated these helpful suggestions and included a publications section (hadn't found these before). I've changed the text to emphasise that his advocacy of spinal anaesthesia was published within a year of Bier's publication, which as you say strengthens the hook. Also included more citations as you suggested.
Symbol confirmed.svg Thank you. Both hooks okay. Plenty of references. Whispyhistory (talk) 11:35, 12 October 2018 (UTC)
