This template is different from the deleted "White American" template. The White American template was judged to be controversial and politically charged because it included Middle Eastern Americans and European American under the umbrella term White American.  Because of this expansive definition of who was White, it was controversial and did not represent a neutral point of view. This template represents a neutral point of view because these American groups with European ancestry necessarily fit into the umbrella term "European American".

4 Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Turkey span the conventional boundary between Europe and Asia.

 +
5 Disputed; Roma have recognized origins and historic ties to Asia (specifically to Northern India), but they experienced at least some distinctive identity development while in diaspora among Europeans.

22 Russia is a transcontinental country in eastern Europe and northern Asia. The vast majority of its population (80%) lives in European Russia, therefore Russia as a whole is included as a European country here.
+
6 Armenia and Cyprus are located entirely in Asia, but historically have stronger tie with Europe.

Initial visibility: currently defaults to autocollapse

To set this template's initial visibility, the |state= parameter may be used:

  • |state=collapsed: to show the template collapsed, i.e., hidden apart from its title bar
  • |state=expanded: to show the template expanded, i.e., fully visible
  • |state=autocollapse:
    • shows the template collapsed to the title bar if there is a navbar, a sidebar, or some other table on the page with the collapsible attribute
    • shows the template in its expanded state if there are no other collapsible items on the page

If the |state= parameter in the template on this page is not set, the template's initial visibility is taken from the |default= parameter in the Collapsible option template. For the template on this page, that currently evaluates to autocollapse.
