FINGER included 1,260 participants aged 60–77 years. The initial study, which ended in 2014, will continue with an extended 7 year follow up period. FINGER indicated that utilizing nutritional intervention, physical exercise, cognitive training, and social activities together resulted in a significant beneficial effect on overall cognitive performance. The study was the first large randomized controlled trial that suggested that it is possible to prevent cognitive decline and thus delay or prevent AD using an integrative medical program among older, at-risk individuals [4–6]. |
