Chocorua Island Chapel

Source:"Camp Chocorua, considered the first summer youth camp in the country" First, "the boys cleared the location for the chapel, opening up an area roughly thirty feet in diameter. They smoothed the ground out, removing most rocks and all vegetative material; according to one source, they even spread beach sand around to simulate a carpet. The clearing contained an erratic boulder that was upended for an altar and "surrounded by two stone steps." Behind the altar and close by the shoreline, the boys erected a ten-foot cross made of birch tree trunks. An oddly shaped piece of granite was "fished out of the lake" to serve as a lectern, which it vaguely resembled. For seating, they fashioned rustic benches from saplings" PP 17-18

Symbol confirmed.svg Interesting (hi)story, on good sources, no copyvio obvious. The hook is ok, although I'd prefer one including the "erratic boulder" ;) - I dropped "young" from "young boys". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:05, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
ALT1 ... that the altar of the Chocorua Island Chapel in New Hampshire is an "erratic" boulder, and the lectern was found in Squam Lake?

Symbol confirmed.svg thank you, miss the boys, but raising curiosity is perhaps better ;) - Hook tweaked, revert if you don't like it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:37, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
ALT2 ... that Chocorua Island Chapel at Squam Lake, New Hampshire, began as part of the first summer youth camp in America, built by the camp's boys with an "erratic" boulder, trees and beach sand? (187 characters)
Template:U Let's see if 3rd time's the charm here. Does ALT2 work for you? If so, maybe we could scrap the original hook and ALT1. Let me know, please. — Maile (talk) 15:28, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
Symbol confirmed.svg yes, charming, but I'll leave ALT1 approved also, in case a short hook is desired for balance.
