Crosby's Opera House

Crosby's Opera House

  • ... that over 210,000 tickets were distributed for the lottery held in 1867 to determine the ownership of Crosby's Opera House (pictured)?

Created by Teemu08 (talk). Self nominated at 19:38, 31 July 2014 (UTC).

  • Symbol voting keep.svg Article is new enough (created July 31), long enough, uses in-line citations and appears to be neutrally written. The article and hook are cited to two off-line publications. I was initially suspicious this might be a hoax, given the lack of on-line sources and the ownership of the building by a guy named "Uranus H. Crosby." That said, a search of on-line sources confirms that Crosby's Opera House was, in fact, a real, historical structure as was Uranus Crosby. I was only able to partially confirm the hook fact since the cited sources are off-line, but some sources do confirm that there was a lottery, e.g., this and this (confirming sale of 210,000 tickets). I assume good faith on the part of Teemu08 for the remainder of the hook fact. Image has proper public domain license. QPQ completed. Cbl62 (talk) 14:55, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

ALT1 * ... that over 210,000 tickets were sold in the 1867 lottery in which Chicago's Crosby's Opera House (pictured) was one of the prizes?

Symbol voting keep.svg Good catch ... not sure about Uranus's size, so maybe it wouldn't be fair to classify him as a structure, but a real, historical figure in any event. The alt1 hook also looks fine, based on assumption of good faith as to Teemu08's off-line sources. Cbl62 (talk) 16:12, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Well, maybe he was a pillar of the community, or a tower of strength to his family. EEng (talk) 16:27, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
