Usage

This template is put at the top of a biographical article to explain to readers that there is no family name.

This template takes one required parameter:

  • {{Icelandic name|(given name)}}

There is an optional parameter to specify the sex of the named parent, and thus only say "Patronymic" (male) or "Matronymic" (female). If not specified, both are given. If the parameter is "surname" then mention of patronym and matronym are supressed; this is an actual family name, but it is still proper to refer to the person by their given name.

Examples;

  • {{Icelandic name|''Bob''|male}}
  • {{Icelandic name|''Bob''|female}}
  • {{Icelandic name|''Bob''|surname}}
  • {{Icelandic name|''Charlie''}}
