Usage

This subtemplate produces references for speaker data on language articles. If the number of speakers is taken from Ethnologue 17, enter ⟨e17⟩ in the 'ref' field, and a footnote will be generated that links to the page on Ethnologue article, based on the language's ISO639-3 code. This footnote can be linked to elsewhere on the page with <ref name=e17/>. (⟨e16⟩ and ⟨e15⟩ can be used for the 16th and 15th editions.)

  • {{Infobox language/ref|e17}}[1]
  • {{Infobox language/ref|e16}}[2]
  • {{Infobox language/ref|e15}}[3]
  • {{Infobox language/ref|e14}}[4]
  • {{Infobox language/ref|linglist}}[5]
  • {{Infobox language/ref|Some reference}} → Some reference
  • {{Infobox language/ref|{{cite book|title=Some book}}}}Some book.
  • {{Infobox language/ref}} → (blank returns blank)

References (from the examples)

  1. Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; no text was provided for refs named e17
  2. Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; no text was provided for refs named e16
  3. Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; no text was provided for refs named e15
  4. Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; no text was provided for refs named e14
  5. [1] at MultiTree on the Linguist List

Note that the first generates an error. This is because no ISO code has been supplied. We can't reference the speaker population to Ethnologue if there is no Ethnologue page to refer to. Technically, e15 should generate an error here too, but it is rare enough that this is not a likely problem.
