(since this is a template embedded in other articles, including in ref notes in some cases, having an inline ref appears to create cite problems - have removed the whole part about closure & now reopening due to the pandemic....this information can be captured in othe ways, where needed, rather than providing too much detail in a template that would disrupt flow of some articles)

There are 168 dedicated temples (161 currently operating; and 7 previously dedicated, but closed for renovation), 17 under construction, and 40 announced (not yet under construction), for a total of 225.
