Usage

This template takes two parameters, both optional,

  • {{British-Museum-object}}
    This article is about an item held in the British Museum.
  • {{British-Museum-object|EA 32751}}
    This article is about an item held in the British Museum. The object reference is EA 32751.
  • {{British-Museum-object|The Ringlemere gold cup|url=http://www.britishmuseum.org/explore/highlights/highlight_objects/pe_prb/t/the_ringlemere_gold_cup.aspx}}
    This article is about an item held in the British Museum. The object reference is The Ringlemere gold cup.
  • {{British-Museum-object||url=http://www.britishmuseum.org/explore/highlights/highlight_objects/pe_prb/t/the_ringlemere_gold_cup.aspx}}
    This article is about an item held in the British Museum. [1]

Using |id=, you can use the database number instead of the full url. This automatically generates the url for the collection database record, with "objectid=" in the url.

This number is not to be confused with the British Museum "registration number", department based "big number" or the image identification numbers shown on photographs.

  • {{British-Museum-object|EA 32751|id=117645}}
    This article is about an item held in the British Museum. The object reference is EA 32751.

Note that if |url=, this will have no effect.

Notes

The examples are from Ringlemere Cup and Ginger (mummy).
Sometimes instead of |url=, unnamed parameter 2 may be used. This is deprecated, because it may cause problems. {{British-Museum-object|The Ringlemere gold cup|http://www.british...etcetera}}.
