| 40px | This is a documentation subpage for Template:Char. It contains usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
For showing examples of typographic symbols, using a box designed to look a bit like a metal typeface. This is to replace many uses of parenthesis, quotes, etc being used to show this, for consistent style and to avoid confusion as to what glyphs are actually part of the symbol.
Current version uses a serif typeface but no other modifications. In particular I found that enlarging the font makes the line spacing ugly so that probably should not be done.
Usage
{{char|x}} → x
Embedded links deprecated
The purpose of this template is to show the character as simply and as cleanly as possible. Consequently, although it is technically possible to write
- {{char|[[x]]}} → x,
this practice is deprecated because hyperlinks are generally indicated by adding an underscore to the glyph, which will mean that the image shown is no longer accurate.
