12px "article name needed". Encyclopædia Britannica (12th ed.). 1922.

50px Template documentation[view] [edit] [history] [purge]

Purpose

This template enables the citation of articles from the Wikisource project 1922 Encyclopædia Britannica in the manner of {{cite encyclopedia}}.

Usage

minimum usage is:

{{Cite EB1922|wstitle=name of the article}}

or

{{Cite EB1922|title=name of the article}}

The template {{{BASENAME}}} is a wrapper around {{cite encyclopedia}} some of the parameters used by {{cite encyclopedia}} can be set when calling this template. These are:

|author= |first= |last= |page= |pages= |url= |volume=

See the documentation of {{cite encyclopedia}} for more details about these parameters.

There are three other parameters which can be used in this template that affect it and are not passed on as parameters into {{cite encyclopedia}} these are:

|noicon=x |vb=x |display=display name

Details of theses parameters can be found lower down this page.

Examples

Display using wstitle (Wikisource link)

{{Cite EB1922|wstitle=Fischer, Theobald}}

displays as:

12px "Fischer, Theobald" . Encyclopædia Britannica (12th ed.). 1922.

Display using title (no Wikisource link)

{{Cite EB1922|title=Fischer, Theobald}}

displays as:

12px "Fischer, Theobald". Encyclopædia Britannica (12th ed.). 1922.

When title is being used, url can be used to specify an external link.

With comment

{{Cite EB1922|wstitle=Fischer, Theobald}} A German-born geographer who developed the Mediterranean region concept.

displays as:

12px "Fischer, Theobald" . Encyclopædia Britannica (12th ed.). 1922. A German-born geographer who developed the Mediterranean region concept.

Using noicon

{{Cite EB1922|wstitle=Fischer, Theobald|noicon=x}}

displays as:

"Fischer, Theobald" . Encyclopædia Britannica (12th ed.). 1922.

Using vb

If text is incorporated verbatim into an article, the vb parameter can be used to tack on a notice appropriate to the policy in Wikipedia:Plagiarism.

{{Cite EB1922|wstitle=Lowell, Abbott Lawrence|vb=x}}

displays as:

12px This article incorporates text from a publication now in the public domain"Lowell, Abbott Lawrence" . Encyclopædia Britannica (12th ed.). 1922.

Using display

The mechanics of Wikisource will sometimes require that a link have disambiguation information which is not part of the original title. The display parameter allows this information to be hidden for the purpose of the citation. For example:

{{Cite EB1922|wstitle=Nicholas (Russian Grand Duke)|display=Nicholas (Nikolai Nikolayevich), Russian Grand Duke}}

displays as:

12px "Nicholas (Nikolai Nikolayevich), Russian Grand Duke" . Encyclopædia Britannica (12th ed.). 1922.
