Usage

The OED2 template generates a reference for a particular word defined in the second edition of the Oxford English Dictionary. Unlike the OED template it does not generate an online reference, the online resource is OED3 reached through OED.

The template should be inserted after punctuation, such as a period or comma.

{{OED2 | word |volume= |page= }}

  • word: The word being defined, required.
  • volume: The volume in which the word is found in the standard edition (optional).
  • page: The page on which the headword entry starts in the standard edition (optional).

(The volumes start at: A, B.B.C., Cham, Creel, Dvandva, Follow, Hat, Interval, Look, Moul, Ow, Poise, Quemadero, Rob, Ser, Soot, Su, Thru, Unemancipated, and Wave)

Linkage

The template automatically generates an anchor in the format Reference-OED2-{{{1}}}

{{OED1}} which generates similar code for the first edition.

{{OED}} which generates a reference to the third, online, edition.
