Contents
Purpose
This template enables the citation of articles from the Wikisource project A Short Biographical Dictionary of English Literature in the manner of non-link references and notes.
Usage
{{Cite SBDEL
| wstitle = put the name of the article here
| comment = optional comment
| noicon = x
| short = x
}}
Parameters
- title: Title of the entry in Short Biographical Dictionary of English Literature. If not entered, it will use the title of the article to which the template has been added.
- comment: Comment following the citation.
- noicon:
All parameters are optional, although the first entry (title) is strongly recommended
Examples
Simplest
{{Cite SBDEL|wstitle=Shakespeare, William}}
displays as:
Cousin, John William (1910), "Shakespeare, William", A Short Biographical Dictionary of English Literature, London: J. M. Dent & Sons – via Wikisource
Comment
{{Cite SBDEL|wstitle=Shakespeare, William|comment=A versatile dramatist of Elizabethan England.}}
displays as:
Cousin, John William (1910), "Shakespeare, William", A Short Biographical Dictionary of English Literature, London: J. M. Dent & Sons – via Wikisource A versatile dramatist of Elizabethan England.
And, actually, it is easy just to append the comment after the template invocation:
{{Cite SBDEL|wstitle=Shakespeare, William}} A versatile dramatist of Elizabethan England.
displays as:
Cousin, John William (1910), "Shakespeare, William", A Short Biographical Dictionary of English Literature, London: J. M. Dent & Sons – via Wikisource A versatile dramatist of Elizabethan England.
Using noicon
{{Cite SBDEL|wstitle=Shakespeare, William|noicon=x}}
displays as:
Cousin, John William (1910), "Shakespeare, William", A Short Biographical Dictionary of English Literature, London: J. M. Dent & Sons – via Wikisource
Using short
{{Cite SBDEL|wstitle=Shakespeare, William|short=x}}
Removes the default editor publisher fields and displays as:
"Shakespeare, William", A Short Biographical Dictionary of English Literature, 1910 – via Wikisource
Cite wikisource functions
This template uses {{Cite wikisource}} and can use some additional parameters from that template if necessary. The most useful of these are:
- wspage: Page number in the original book. This will link to the anchor corresponding to the page at Wikisource; although that will only be noticeable for longer entries.
- page: This will display the page number but not link to wikisource.
- scan: Link to the page scan at Wikisource. Must include the full pagename, including the Page: namespace.
- quote: A quote from the book. A potential alternative to the comment parameter.
Example
{{Cite SBDEL|Shakespeare, William|wspage=350|scan=Page:Cousins's Short Biographical Dictionary of English Literature.djvu/350|quote=The genius of S. was so intensely dramatic that it is impossible to say confidently when he speaks in his own character.}}
