1970 Alabama 500

  • 16px Length okay, barely squeaking in at just over 1500 characters, not counting list or headings. Created on June 21. I have a few problems with the sourcing and the tone of the prose. I see no support for the line about the typical length for races in the 1970s. There's no sources for most of the race description in the second paragraph. I wouldn't usually have much issue with that, since I realize that there needs to be some description of the race (like the plot synopsis section in articles about books and movies), but it concerns me because it sounds too much like a news report. I suggest copy-editing the paragraph in question, which may solve the problem. For example, this sentence: Even though Baker led the most laps with 101 (along with having a nine second distance between Pete Hamilton by lap 170), he spent an incredible 88 minutes on pit road; allowing Hamilton to lap him. It's full of peacocky terms ("incredible") and terms that non-race fans wouldn't understand ("on pit road", "lap him"). Sources are fine. All hook choices are ok, although I have a personal preference for ALT1 because the fire is the most interesting thing about this article. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 18:26, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
  • I did some cleanup, and the source for the second paragraph (this) was originally in the paragraph, but a later edit split the paragraph in two, carrying the ref into the third one. ZappaOMati 20:29, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Which hooks did you verify? --Orlady (talk) 16:54, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
