Animatronics

Lucky the Dinosaur audio-animatronic at Walt Disney World in 2005 was the first one to walk on land

  • ... that Abraham Lincoln was a major factor in today's popularization of modern-day animatronics?
  • ALT1:... that humanoid animatronics are in fact androids; animatronics is best reserved for non-humanoid lifelife characters?
  • ALT2:... that the lineage of modern-day animatronics can be traced back as far as 1220 in medieval Europe?
  • ALT3:... that Walt Disney's first interest in animatronics came after he happened upon a toy animatronics bird by chance while on vacation?
  • Comment: This article was last weeks featured Article for Improvement and with the efforts of the team, consisting of NickPenguin, David Condrey, Horai 551, Tomásdearg92, Melody Lavender, EuroCarGT, CSJJ104, Finnusertop, Northamerica1000, Buster7, Evad37, Sfan00 IMG we were able to turn the Animatronics article from this to this over a marathon 7 days of hard work.

5x expanded by Wikipedia Project:Today's Articles for Improvement Team (talk). Nominated by David Condrey (talk) at 07:16, 12 August 2014 (UTC).

  • Symbol voting keep.svg The image is public domain. The article is long enough, meets policy requirements, and was expanded within 5 days of nomination. All hooks meet length requirements. The primary hook is defective as the article doesn't make out the Lincoln animatronic was a "major factor" in anything. ALT1 is problematic because "best reserved" is a questionable judgement. The article makes the point that the term "android" is more accurate but the cited source doesn't seem to say that. ALT2 and ALT3 are fine. I prefer ALT3. Chris Troutman (talk) 02:24, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for the review Chris. Regarding the primary hook, my line of thought is in reference to the Abraham Lincoln animatronics character which is noted 10 times throughout the course of the article being first mentioned as the first official animatronics character created by Disney which is later improved and to this day can be seen in real life. I wrote the hook purposefully remaining somewhat vague in hopes of catching people's attention.. like .."How could Abraham Lincoln be related to animatronics, I need to check this out..((click))". If you have any suggestions for adjusting it or replacing it I'd love to get your suggestion.
ALT1 I've adjusted the wording per your suggestion. Seeing as how there were no problems with ALT2 or 3 perhaps we can use one of them to replace the primary hook if it's not suitable..? In my opinion the current primary hook is just more likely to draw people into the article, but I'm not attached to it.
I have also edited the article this evening, adding numerous references related to the definitions and differences between robots, androids, and animatronics. Hopefully they are satisfactory.
