Lou Qinjian

Created by Zanhe (talk). Self nom at 16:53, 13 February 2013 (UTC).

  • Pictogram voting keep.svg size and age check out - AGF on the chinese sources. Google translate appears to confirm....Casliber (talk · contribs) 11:51, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
  • This hook is fairly boring. Isn't there a more suitable factoid in the article?--Carabinieri (talk) 20:48, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
  • Sorry but I disagree. People don't usually associate computer scientists with politicians, and it's very unusual for a high-ranking politician to have a computer science Ph.D. I wish I could find something more unusual to use, but in China little is published about the private lives of politicians. -Zanhe (talk) 21:33, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
  • Symbol question.svg The hook would be interesting if you could compare Qinjian with other Chinese politicians who don't have computer science degrees. Alternately, you could make a hook around the rusticated youth phase of his life. (By the way, I don't see anything about rusticated youth in Footnote 1, which is one of the sources for this paragraph.) I'm sure most readers, like myself, have never heard of this term, and it could be used as a teaser in the hook. Best, Yoninah (talk) 22:11, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

Template:Od*Thanks for your suggestion. How about

ALT1: ... that Lou Qinjian, governor of China's Shaanxi Province, began his career as a rusticated youth?
Personally I think the computer science Ph.D. factoid is more unusual (most of China's current leaders have worked as rusticated youths during the Cultural Revolution), but ALT1 works for me too. Footnote 1 does not mention rusticated youth, but footnotes 2 and 3 do, both in Chinese (the word 知青 (zhiqing) is usually translated as rusticated youth or sent-down youth in English). -Zanhe (talk) 00:26, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Pictogram voting keep.svg Thanks. I have the feeling rusticated youth will get as many hits as the subject itself. Article is new enough, long enough, well-sourced, no close paraphrasing seen. Hook ref AGF. ALT1 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 08:59, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
