Melchior Hoffmann (composer)
* ... that some of Melchior HoffmannTemplate:`s compositions have been attributed to J. S. Bach?

- Comment: Instead of a vague "some compositions" - which could be simple things - I would name one of the cantatas, - even willing to improve it a bit, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:14, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks Template:Ping. Of the two stubs, Schlage doch, gewünschte Stunde, BWV 53 is the better, in my opinion. It does not appear that either has been conclusively liked to Hoffmann. The Magnificat, which has been conclusively linked, does not have its own article. What do you think of:
* ALT1 ... that Schlage doch, gewünschte Stunde, BWV 53, attributed to J. S. Bach, is more likely by Melchior Hoffmann?
- The problem is that I not sure the source is strong enough. Maybe it is. This is stated in the Rifkin notes on the CD, but otherwise everything else says "Hoffman?". Neither do I find any source that claims it is positively by Bach. Every one of them seems to imply "maybe by Hoffman, but probably not by Bach." Do you have a strong source that would support the Alt hook? 78.26 (I'm no IP, talk to me!) 20:44, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
- Tweaked hook to standard representation of the cantatas, - Bach or not. I will look, it's a challenge, - but "more likely" is careful enough, I think. The expert Dürr says: "not by Bach", without "probably", --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:57, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
- I started expanding, should be decent enough to be linked from the Main page, lacks an infobox {{infobox musical composition}}, we can't use Bach's ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:21, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
ALT2 ... that probably Melchior Hoffmann composed Schlage doch, gewünschte Stunde (BWV 53), not Bach?--Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:29, 26 May 2014 (UTC)- I really like your ALT2 proposal. 78.26 (I'm no IP, talk to me!) 02:06, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
- Grammatically, it should read:
- ALT3 ... that Melchior Hoffmann probably composed Schlage doch, gewünschte Stunde (BWV 53), not Bach? Yoninah (talk) 22:43, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- Fine, thank you, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:24, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you, yes. 78.26 (I'm no IP, talk to me!) 12:00, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
- 16px I have struck ALT2 on the understanding that Gerda has approved ALT3. New enough (for 22 May) and long enough. Offline citation #6 for ALT3 accepted AGF. No problems with disambig links or with external links. No copyvio or close paraphrasing found; all online sources checked. Neutral POV and objective language; article fully cited. (Minor issue: spelling should be "succumbed".) Good to go. --Storye book (talk) 16:11, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
- We could generate a lot of hooks this way. eg ... that (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction is by the Rolling Stones and not Bach? Hawkeye7 (talk) 11:23, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
- No, because Satisfaction doesn't come with a Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis number, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:50, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
