Merkel-Raute

photo

  • ... that the Merkel-Raute (pictured) has been described as "probably one of the most recognisable hand gestures in the world"?
  • Reviewed: Pending Battle of Raqqa (2013)
  • Comment: It would be great if this was posted on 22 September, the day of the German federal election. As the gesture is used by both Merkel's supporters and opponents, I don't think that this could be considered campaigning. What are your thoughts? Currently, there is no image yet (I raised the matter here and hope to get one in time); there would be two possibilities: One could either crop her portrait to only feature her hands, or take a photo of the giant billboard currently displayed in central Berlin. I would favor the latter, but I am aware that this choice could indeed be seen as an attempt of campaigning (because it is a supporters' poster). On the other hand, all that is shown are her hands. Again, what do you think?

  • Symbol question.svg Article is long and new enough. Hook is quite interesting, short enough, and supported by in-line citation. The formatting of the hook was off (no bold on subject article and (pictured) noted without picture); I have fixed those issues. QPQ still needs to be completed. Please read the above comment. There is no image yet, but I will add one once it's available.--FoxyOrange (talk) 16:52, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
OK. Will put on hold for now. Leave me a note when you think this is ready for final review. Cbl62 (talk) 17:32, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
  • I've just heard that cropped images are also acceptable to accompany the hook, so my problem with finding a suitable picture seems to have dissolved. Once again, I think it would be somewhat cool to have this posted on 22 September (preferably also in the correct time zone); and I do not think that this is campaigning, because the article and hook are neutral. The gesture is used as a symbol for Merkel's politics, in a positive way by her supporters and in a negative by her opponents. The image itself won't push any point of view.--FoxyOrange (talk) 20:22, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
File has been tagged for missing essential source info. That needs to be addressed. Cbl62 (talk) 00:35, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
  • Sorry for that, I'd been too hasty with the upload. Now, the licencing should be correct.--FoxyOrange (talk) 06:59, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
  • Dear User:Cbl62 or whoever else is interested in this review, may I kindly asked what the current status is? Please note that 22 September is less than a week away (but of course, that date is only a suggestion). Best regards--FoxyOrange (talk) 06:08, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
