Shloime Gertner

  • ... that Shloime Gertner, a Hasidic Jewish singer from London, dedicated the song "Kodesh" ("Holy") on his debut album to his developmentally-disabled daughter?
  • Symbol question.svg The subsection on "The Big Event" controversy does not appear to be new (see Lipa_Schmeltzer#.22The_Big_Event.22_controversy). Attribution is required even when copying within Wikipedia. Without this subsection, there is still enough new content (1,708 characters). Many of the sources for that subsection had broken or dead links including the main one that mentions Gertner by name, and I have done my best to address that. Otherwise well-written, well-sourced article within policy recreated within 7 days of nomination. QPQ and both hooks are OK. I prefer ALT1 as more hooky, but I think the controversy presents an opportunity for an even more interesting hook, e.g.
  • ALT2: ... that a concert featuring Shloime Gertner, who has been called "the Hasidic Robbie Williams", was banned by rabbis who said it would lead to "ribaldry and lightheadedness"? HelenOnline 10:04, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
  • Thank you for your review and the work you did on the refs, Helen. I removed the unorthodoxjew blogspot because (a) it is a blog and (b) it is virulently anti-Orthodox, which does not allow NPOV on Orthodox-themed articles such as this. Regarding your alt hook, I think it is deceiving and not entirely accurate. Shloime Gertner was only one of the "guest stars" set to perform at the concert; the main draw was Lipa Schmeltzer, whose image marketing took a 180-degree turn after the controversy because the backlash threatened to topple his stardom. No one in the Orthodox Jewish world associates "The Big Event" with Gertner, only with Schmeltzer. Printing a hook like this will make people wonder what other concert Gertner did that was banned. If it's okay with you, I prefer to run with the original hook or ALT1. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 17:44, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
  • No problem, I understand. I agree the blog "archive" is far from ideal for several reasons, it was the only place I could find it to verify what it said. I would recommend keeping the source as an offline source as follows, as most of the sources for this subsection do not mention Gertner explicitly:
  • Resnick, Elliot (5 March 2008). "Concert Ban Sounds Sour Note For Some". The Jewish Press. Two weeks after 33 rabbis banned a concert that was to feature chassidic singers Lipa Schmeltzer and Shloime Gertner, confusion and rumor continue to percolate.
  • Will you be adding attribution to the article as raised in my review, e.g. using Template:Copied? HelenOnline 19:10, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
  • I'm sorry, I don't understand what I'm supposed to do. You mean it's like a merge action? Do I also have to do this when I copy-and-paste from articles that I've written into new articles that I'm writing? Yoninah (talk) 19:48, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
  • Attribution via a link to the article(s) copied from could have been included in the original edit summary when you created the new article but as it is too late for that another way is necessary (see WP:RIA for suggestions which include using Template:Copied on the talk page). Per WP:NOATT: "If the re-user is the sole contributor of the text at the other page, attribution is not necessary." HelenOnline 07:38, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
  • Symbol confirmed.svg Thanks. Good to go now with either hook. I prefer ALT1. HelenOnline 14:25, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
