Am I just missing something? I'm not sure the article is all that clear that Washington was being called an ass. It repeatedly refers to Washington riding a donkey (ass) and being led by Col. David Humphreys with the verse, The glorious time has come to pass when David shall conduct an ass. But I don't see anything that says the cartoon specifically called Washington an ass, or that it was perceived that way by the populace at the time.
