Purpose

This template facilitates the attribution of articles from either an external source or from the Wikisource project Easton's Bible Dictionary in the manner of {{cite encyclopedia}}.

This template should usually be placed on the main page of the article, in the "References" section near the bottom of the page (see WP:Plagiarism#Where to place attribution).

Usage

To link to an article on Wikisource:

  • {{EBD|wstitle=EBD article name}}

or to name an article and optionally link to another site using the url parameter:

  • {{EBD|title=EBD article name|url=url here}}

Using the article name Samaritan Pentateuch as an example with wstitle=:

{{EBD|wstitle=Samaritan Pentateuch}}
  • 12px This article incorporates text from a publication now in the public domainEaston, Matthew George (1897). "Samaritan Pentateuch". Easton's Bible Dictionary (New and revised ed.). T. Nelson and Sons.

and with title= and url=

{{EBD|title=Samaritan Pentateuch|url=http://archive.org/stream/illustratedbible00east#page/598/mode/1up}}

The parameter noicon=x stops the display of the icon:

There are some other parameters available (a subset of those contained in {{cite encyclopedia}}). These are:

  • volume=number
  • page=number
  • pages='numbers
  • ref=ref type
