(include absent years due to war, not obvious to readers who don't know a lot about the club why seasons aren't there. Much better to explain it. (Even though during war time, it would be much more obvious if 1914-18 and 1939-45 were all missed, but parts of the wars isn't self explanatory enough)

(Essendon has played a third of their home games at the MCG since the introduction of Docklands, very similar stats to GWS at Manuka which is listed as a home ground (Ess actually play more home games at MCG than GWS do at Manuka anyway). https://afltables.com/afl/teams/essendon/allgames_vn.html)

Initial visibility: currently defaults to autocollapse

To set this template's initial visibility, the |state= parameter may be used:

  • |state=collapsed: {{Essendon Football Club|state=collapsed}} to show the template collapsed, i.e., hidden apart from its title bar
  • |state=expanded: {{Essendon Football Club|state=expanded}} to show the template expanded, i.e., fully visible
  • |state=autocollapse: {{Essendon Football Club|state=autocollapse}}
    • shows the template collapsed to the title bar if there is a {{navbar}}, a {{sidebar}}, or some other table on the page with the collapsible attribute
    • shows the template in its expanded state if there are no other collapsible items on the page

If the |state= parameter in the template on this page is not set, the template's initial visibility is taken from the |default= parameter in the Collapsible option template. For the template on this page, that currently evaluates to autocollapse.
