This template is intended for use in language-family articles, where there are lists of unlinked or redlinked language names which are not likely to have dedicated articles any time soon—especially if our classification differs from that of Ethnologue, so simply linking to the family is not informative. See for example Cariban languages#Family division.

This template produces an in-line link to Ethnologue through the ISO639-3 code of a language. It is mostly used in tables and footnotes to reference the ISO code or name. Note that it links to the current edition of Ethnologue, and therefore should not be used to reference data such as population figures which may become outdated with the next edition. For a dated Ethnologue reference, Ethnologue16 etc. should be used.

Usage

The first parameter links to Ethnologue through its ISO 639-3 code. For example,

aap = aap.

If a second parameter is used, it will display instead of the ISO code. For example,

aap = Arára.

Both formats link to the Arára page at Ethnologue.

If a WP article might be created soon, or it's a good idea to have the page show up under 'what links here', a red link can be left in by linking inside the template. For example,

aap

produces:

Arára.
