Here ''date'' should be replaced by the date when the article was listed, ''nnnnnn'' should be replaced by the id number of the reviewed version of the article, and ''topic name'' should be replaced by the abbreviation or full name of the top-level topic under which the article is listed at [[Wikipedia:Good articles]]: this will point the Good articles link to the relevant section on the good articles list. Some of the possible topics can be found [[WP:GAPQ#Categories|here]]; the abbreviations for the topics are: arts, langlit, philrelig, farming, food, video games,  everydaylife, socsci, geography, history, engtech, math, natsci. This template is used on article talk pages to record their promotion to Good article status. The template adds articles to Category:Wikipedia good articles and to the Wikipedia CD Selection-GAs. Do not add this template to an article if it has not had a review on the article's talk page or a subpage. To nominate a good article, use {{GAN}}.

This template can record the following:

  • the date of promotion;
  • the ID of the reviewed version (|oldid=);
  • the page where the review was conducted (|page=); and
  • the main topic of the article (|topic=). The list of main topics is at Wikipedia:Good articles/Summary.

{{GA|17:51, 29 May 2008|topic=geography|page=1}} yields:
