===Commons semi-copy===
On Wiki-Comons there is a similar template. Comments in code here (at English wiki) ask for carefully overdoing the edits on both sides. Still there are differences (e.g., a IPA-symbol at Commons is by image, here it is by font), which make the task to synchronize them undoable for one editor. Which is a bad thing. This all originated in 2005 or so, so maybe wikimedia etc are more helpful now.

(Personal note: I did not restrain from improving here on the English wiki, without bothering about Commons. Later on, when the edits are done, someone might take a look at the synchronization/copying at Commons. For now, we want the best Vowels-table at en., without compromising.).

Usage

As a bare table (chart) {{IPA vowel chart}}.
Also: this chart is transcluded into navbox {{Vowels}}

Option: show/hide non-IPA symbols

To hide non-IPA symbols and the related footnote, use:

  • {{IPA vowel chart|shownonIPA=no}}

By default the non-IPA symbols are shown:

  • {{IPA vowel chart}} corresponds to {{IPA vowel chart|shownonIPA=yes}}: showing the non-IPAs.

Commons semi-copy

On Wiki-Commons there is a similar template.

Here follows the commented code, top of the templatecode, about the Commmons-synchronisation (moved from the template itself):
Note: A comment like <!-- my comment --> is replaced by <c-- same comment -->. Some parts were in noinclude-tags.

<c-- There is a copy of this chart on the Wikimedia Commons, under the same page title. The links are different in form:
 Wikipedia:  [[Close front rounded vowel|y]]
 Commons:  [[:Image:Close front rounded vowel.ogg|y]]
When making edits to this chart, it is recommended that you make the same edits to both copies.
Using a browser text size between 6 and 20 pixels is recommended when viewing this chart. -->
<c--  Wikipedia only: -->
<c-- It's not necessary to add the "w:" in links from here, as that refers to the English Wikipedia, which is what you're looking at. -->{{SpecialChars}}
<c-- above Wikipedia only --></nowiki>

(Here follows de body code of the template)
