Usage

As a bare table (chart): {{IPA vowel chart}}.
For navigation, this chart is transcluded into navbox: {{IPA navigation}}

Positioning

By default the template is floating to the right side of the page (float:right;). Text will run left of the template, and there is no {{clear}} so it might overlap a next section. Optionally, the float can be left by using

  • {{IPA vowel chart|float=left}}.

To force an align-placement, use:

  • <div align=center>{{IPA vowel chart|float=none}}</div>.

Technical notes

Subtemplate vowelpair

The templates uses subtemplate Template:IPA vowel chart/vowelpair to produce a pair of vowels. Usage:

  • {{IPA vowel chart/vowelpair|left-symbol|right-symbol|symbol-over-midbullet|top|left}}. Top and left are numeric, the distances in px counting from the top, left corner (do no type the "px"). This will be the position of the bullet (central); symbols will shove against it from left & right. The trapezoid is 300px width and 210px height.

Color scheme

The table uses a color scheme that is used on more phonetic IPA boxes. Help:Using colors describes how the English Wikipedia uses a set of four related colors, based on a single color (hue) e.g. green, are used on the wiki Main Page: headers, 2nd rank headers, borders and background. For another basic color, say blue, a corresponding set can be generated.
For this template, the colors are:

Hue Saturation 4% / Brightness 100%

main background
Saturation 10% / Brightness 100%

2nd header, accent colour
Saturation 15% / Brightness 95%
main border
header background
Saturation 15% / Brightness 75%

header border only
Hue: 60 #FFFFF5 #FFFFE6 #F2F2CE #BFBFA3
