This template automatically wikilinks the IPA symbol passed as parameter to the respective sound article.

The conversion table is not directly defined in this template, but it can be found at {{IPAsym}}.

Usage

This template has only one parameter, which is numbered and mandatory. If the argument does not exist in the table, then the argument is linked to [[Error using {{IPA symbol}}: "this is definitely not in the table" not found in list]].

{{IPAlink|m}}m
{{IPAlink|ɡ͡b}}ɡ͡b
{{IPAlink|pʰɪk}}pʰɪk

The latter is normally more an example of accidental misuse than intentional use, or it could be a sign that a symbol is missing from the {{IPAsym}} table.

Extending this template

Please keep this template simple. In particular, please preserve the only responsibility of this template to providing a wikilink to the corresponding sound.

If you wish to add new features, like enclosing the link in square IPA brackets [...], or enclosing it in <big>...</big> tags, please create a new template (for example Template:IPAsqlink or Template:IPAbiglink) that reuses this template instead.
