When translating an article from German Wikipedia, just import the infobox and translate any free text (NB Infobox Fluss redirects to Infobox Fluss1). It is worth previewing the result first as data in several parameters will be automatically translated if recognised; otherwise it defaults to the entered text. This feature is being enhanced continually. Blank parameters are ignored. The parameter text is shown below; their use is explained in the '''Parameters''' section. (to follow)

The display of coordinates and map locations works fine if they are in decimal. However, usually de.wiki articles give the lat and long in dms format separated by "/". This is not recognised by en.wiki's <nowiki>{{Coord}}</nowiki> template and will display error messages; there appears to be no easy way round this. The best solution is to convert the dms coords to decimal (tip: type the <nowiki>{{Coord}}</nowiki> template into a sandbox, add the dms coordinates and set "format=dec". This will convert the coordinates to decimal in the display. Note them down and substitute them into the infobox). Alternatively add the <nowiki>{{Coord}}</nowiki> template manually as required. The default setting is for coordinates to be displayed in dms format. Another option is to follow the map links on the german wikipedia which will produce the figures needed in the url.

Use

This template enables data on rivers imported from German Wikipedia (using Infobox Fluss) to be translated and displayed in English Wikipedia. This saves the enormous amount of work otherwise entailed in translating parameters and data into en.wiki templates. Some of this translation involves technical terms that may not be obvious to some translators. In addition, en.wiki templates are not capable of displaying all the information provided here.

When translating an article from German Wikipedia, just import the infobox and translate any free text. It is worth previewing the result first as data in several parameters will be automatically translated if recognised; otherwise it defaults to the entered text. This feature is being enhanced continually. Blank parameters are ignored. The parameter text is shown below; their use is explained in the Parameters section. (to follow)

Coordinates

The display of coordinates has now been automated.
