At the restaurant, which is one of those old-time diners like the one in "Pulp Fiction," the pair make uncomfortable small talk. Slim likes the place because it's black-owned, but Queen thinks that he's just cheap. There doesn't seem to be any hope of these two ever having a second date, the way things are going. Things are going to take a change. A police truck pulls them over as Slim drives her home. The policeman is rude, suspicious and white.

Controversy

Jodie Turner Smith as Queen and Daniel Kaluuya as Slim

Courtney Anderson on her site says "this movie doesn’t seem to have been made for Black people".[1] Considering that blacks have been violently debating police brutality in the past few years and insisting on avoiding impunity shooting and killing, this film reflects the blacks trying to escape state-sanctioned abuse through the necessary means—seeking Love, friendship, and redemption come along-may appeal to black audiences. Following her statement she also say "Or, maybe I should say that it’s not for certain types of Black people. For the past few days, I’ve been trying to figure out who Queen & Slim is actually for."[2]

Some some even responded to their disappointment after watching this movie "I left the theater after watching Queen & Slim feeling, yet again, that I was being reminded of my inevitable demise as a black person in America, or the demise of someone I love. I felt hopeless instead of inspired; deflated instead of uplifted; tired instead of woke" by Jordan Ligons on Theringer[3]. Because of Why must black stories rely on trauma and hopelessness?
