In [[sociolinguistics]],  the Linguistic Marketplace (''Marché linguistique'') is the concept that the value of various linguistic variations differs for each individual depending on the circumstances of its useage and demands of the [[speech community]]. Market influences for standardizing one's speech effect the rate and the necessity of said standardization. For instance, standardization of the speech of 'language professionals' such as writers, teachers, and lawyers holds a higher value than the language of a chemist or an engineer. Similarly, the linguistic patterns of technicians of language' such as actors and announcers, have a very high market value and can drastically effect the value of the indivudual in the marketplace, whereas the language of a mechanic holds less market value. Recent sociolinguistic studies have confirmed that market pressures considerably influence standardization of speech patterns.
