Template documentation[view] [edit] [history] [purge]

Usage

This template creates a {{cite web}} reference to an entry in the Macdonald Dictionary, a resource with 22,000 entries created by the historian George Macdonald and held by Canterbury Museum.

{{Macdonald Dictionary|id|title|accessdate}}

Typical usage would be between <ref></ref> tags, with the code below suitable for copy and paste:

<ref name="MacD lastname">{{Macdonald Dictionary|id|title|10 January 2026}}</ref>

  1. id: Id in the URL, consisting of 6 digits
  2. title: Title of the dictionary entry
  3. accessdate: Date the Macdonald Dictionary entry was last verified to support the text in the Wikipedia article
  4. A plain link without cite web can be created with {{{1}}}.

Apart from id, all parameters are optional. title defaults to PAGENAME.

Example

The Macdonald Dictionary biography for Richard Molesworth Taylor is at https://collection.canterburymuseum.com/objects/123678. The id in the URL is '123678'. Accessing the biography today (UTC) would result in the following code:

<ref name="MacD Taylor">{{Macdonald Dictionary|123678|Richard Molesworth Taylor|10 January 2026}}</ref>

Alternatively, to create a plain link:[1]

<ref name="MacD Taylor2">{{Macdonald Dictionary|123678|Richard Molesworth Taylor| |y }}</ref>

This will give the following footnotes:
