| This is a documentation subpage for Template:Malay name. It contains usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
Syntax
{{Malay name|[given name]|[patronymic]|note=on (optional)}}
Usage
This template is a hatnote that can be put at the top of a biographical article to explain to readers that the second element of a Malay name is not the family name but a patronymic, that is, the given name of his or her father. The parameters that the template takes are listed below:
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| [given name] | Replace this term with the person's given or personal name(s). |
| [patronymic] | Replace this term with the person's patronymic, or father's name. |
| note | Optional: if "note=on", the following explanatory note is displayed: "The Arabic word bin (b.) or binti/binte (bt./bte.), if used, means 'son of' or 'daughter of' respectively." These abbreviations are often used by Malays in Malaysia and Singapore. If "note=off" or the "note" parameter is omitted, the explanatory note is not displayed. |
Example
