Usage

This template is designed to collect information, which is used in several articles, in one location. The 2015 Major League Soccer season tables are shown on the overall season article, as well as the articles for each conference, if not other pages as well. This template should replace the need to update the same information on several articles.

In article

To add this table to an article, type {{2015 Major League Soccer Eastern Conference table}}.

Editing

Until the season starts, the order of teams and the |update = and |start_date= parameters should not be changed. Once the season starts, remove the |start_date= parameter and set |update= to the appropriate date.

During season

After each match, update the table and ensure the order of teams and the |update= parameter are also updated. For example:

What you type
{{#invoke:Sports table|main|style=football
|update=30 October 2014 |source=EM EL ESS
|teamwidth=200

Notes:
  1. If the conference champion is from Canada, then the best American team qualifies directly to the CONCACAF Champions League

To change the order of the teams, set |team1= to the team in first place in the conference, |team2= to the team in second place, etc. The order of data entry does not need to be changed. The status of a team can also be set during the season if the outcome is known:

  • If a team will definitely advance to the conference semi-finals, set |status=A
  • If a team will definitely finish sixth or better, set |status=T
  • If a team will definitely finish seventh or lower, set |status=E
  • Otherwise, set |status=

After season complete

When the season is complete, set |update=complete and clear |status= for all teams.

Display options

Smaller table

If a smaller displayed table is desired, the parameter |only_pld_pts= can be defined in the template call to display only the position, team, games played, and points columns. This display may be desired if displaying both conference tables side-by-side. Valid values of |only_pld_pts= to display a truncated table are 1, yes, y, true, and t. For example:

What you type
{{2015 Major League Soccer Eastern Conference table|only_pld_pts=true}}
What you see
Pos Team Pld Pts
1 New York Red Bulls 34 60
2 Columbus Crew 34 53
3 Montreal Impact 34 51
4 D.C. United 34 51
5 New England Revolution 34 50
6 Toronto FC 34 49
7 Orlando City SC 34 44
8 New York City FC 34 37
9 Philadelphia Union 34 37
10 Chicago Fire 34 30

Display on team articles

Smaller sections of the table can be placed in team articles |showteam= and |show_limit= parameters. Use the abbreviation for the team that is used in the code, e.g. DCU for D.C. United, and the number of teams you wish to display – note that even numbers will be increased to an odd number to show symmetry in the table. For example:

What you type
{{2015 Major League Soccer Eastern Conference table|showteam=DCU|show_limit=5}}
What you see
Pos Team Pld W L T GF GA GD Pts Qualification
2 Columbus Crew 34 15 11 8 58 53 +5 53 Conference Semifinals
3 Montreal Impact 34 15 13 6 48 44 +4 51 Knockout round
4 D.C. United 34 15 13 6 43 45 −2 51
5 New England Revolution 34 14 12 8 48 47 +1 50
6 Toronto FC 34 15 15 4 58 58 0 49

Rules for classification: 1) points; 2) total wins; 3) total goal differential; 4) total goals scored; 5) disciplinary points; 6) away goals scored; 7) away goal differential; 8) home goals scored; 9) home goal differential; 10) coin toss or drawing of lots
