itch.io is an open marketplace for independent digital creators with a focus on independent video games. It’s a platform that enables anyone to sell the content they've created. Seller are in charge of how it’s done: set the price, run sales, and design the pages. It’s never necessary to get votes, likes, or follows to get the content approved, and seller can make changes to how they distribute they work.[1] Released in March 2013 by Leaf Corcoran, the service hosts nearly 100,000 games and items as of February 2018.[2]

itch.io give gives creators the tools to make smart choices about how they distribute their content. Creators have access to detailed analytics and about how people discover, download, or play what they've created.[1]

Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality

In time of racial injustice, inequality, and police brutality against black people. Itch.io take a stand by partnering with creators from all across their platform to support organizations that are working directly with those affected. Itch.io reached out to their community and an unprecedented number of creators donated over 740 projects to be part of what they believe is the largest bundle ever. Over $3,400 of paid works are available Pay-what-you-want with a minimum donation amount of $5. All proceeds will be donated to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and Community Bail Fund split 50/50.[3]

The Itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality has been a stunning success, raising $8.1m for funds supporting the Black Lives Matter movement. The bundle, which contained more than 1700 games donated by their creators, was bought by over 810,000 people, raising $8,175,430 - well over its $5m target. The average contribution was $10.30. The top contribution was $5000.[4]

"We live in a time of racial injustice, inequality, and police brutality against black people," Itch.io said in a statement. "We hope that everyone takes a stand in any way that they can. We've partnered with creators from all across our platform to support organisations that are working directly with those affected."[4]
