Margaret Lyons
- ... that Margaret Lyons, the first female vice president of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, was nicknamed the "Dragon Lady"?
Source: Houpt, 2019: "Newspaper profiles frequently noted that she was known inside CBC as “the Dragon Lady.” Margaret insisted the nickname didn’t bother her."
Crean, 1986, p. 324-5 (requires Internet Archive account to view): [Lyons] in 1983 became the vice president in charge of network radio - CBC's first woman vice president and the highest-ranking appointment since Nellie McClung was named to the first board of directors in 1936... She is admired, respected, and also known far and wide as radio's "dragon-lady".
McLean, Globe and Mail, 1984 (available through ProQuest): "Lyons rejoices in a reputation of benevolent ferocity within the CBC, and is widely — and usually admiringly — known as the Dragon Lady."
