Adding a photo? Read this first.
We know you love your cat. So do we, but that doesn't mean a photo of your cat is a good choice for the article. Here are some guidelines:
- Lead image (in the infobox): Don't replace this without discussing it on the talk page. We've decided on this collage of images only after a long series of discussions. If you replace it unilaterally, you will be reverted. No ifs, ands or buts.
- Replacing an existing image: If your photo is of better technical quality (lighting, focus) or is a better depiction of what's being displayed than the existing one, then go for it. Otherwise, leave it alone. We don't need change just for change's sake.
- Adding a new image: First, your photo needs to be of good technical quality (lighting, focus, composition). This article gets more than 10,000 page views a day, so please—no bad photos. Second, do we already have a similar photo in the article? If yes, see (2) above. Lastly, will your photo unquestionably make the article better? In other words, if it's some action or behavior or other aspect of a cat that can't possibly be described in words without your picture, then by all means, go ahead. But if it's only a marginal improvement, or it's not really needed, then please do us the favor and leave it out.
