Air Jordan Flight 601 was an international scheduled passenger flight from Jerusalem Airport to Amman-Marka International Airport. On January 22, 1959, The Convair CV-240-2 was on approach to the destination airport when it crashed in a wooden area 4,5 km (2.8 mls) NW of Wadi Al-Seer. The aircraft burst into flames. Ten occupants were killed while 5 others survived.
The crash was Air Jordan's first and worst fatal accident. It is also the deadliest civil plane crash to happen on Jordanian soil.

Aircraft
The ill-fated plane was a Convair CV-240-2, registration JY-ACB, serial number 55. It flew with 5 different operators before joining Air Jordan in 1956. The aircraft first flight was in 1948. [1]
Crash
While approaching Amman-Marka Airport at night, the crew encountered poor visibility due to low clouds. The captain decided to reduce his altitude and fly below the clouds in an attempt to establish a visual contact with the ground when the airplane struck trees and crashed in a wooded area located near Dabouq, about 19 km from the airport. All four crew members and six passengers were killed while five other passengers were seriously injured.
Cause
The captain descended below the minimum prescribed altitude in poor visibility.
