Givenchy
Givenchy (US: /ɡəˈvɪntʃi, ˌʒiːvɒ̃ˈʃiː/,[1] French: [ʒivɑ̃ʃi]) is a French luxury fashion and perfume house. It hosts the brand of haute couture clothing, accessories and Parfums Givenchy, perfumes and cosmetics. The house of Givenchy was founded in 1952 by designer Hubert James Taffin de Givenchy and is a member of Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture et du Pret-a-Porter.[1] It is owned by a luxury conglomerate LVMH.
From 2 May 2017 until 10 April 2020, its artistic director was Clare Waight Keller, the first woman to hold that position.[2] On 15 June 2020, Givenchy announced that Matthew M. Williams, of 1017 ALYX 9SM would succeed Clare Waight Keller as the Creative Director of the House.
Controversy
In February 2019, Givenchy released new foundation line which received huge backlash due to lack of shade and diversity even though the brand offering 20 different colours.[3] Photos of the new Teint Couture Everywhere Foundation & Concealer line, which will be available in April 2019, were first revealed on the Instagram Trendmood. In the Instagram photos uploaded, which only showed nine of the colours, there was only one shade for darker skin tones - which prompted initial concern that the new line would be limited to light-skinned foundation colours only.
The lack of diversity in the range was confirmed when promotional photos of the entire line revealed just two dark colours and 18 light shades - prompting beauty influencers to criticise the luxury beauty brand.
