There are currently 3 generations of AM4-based chipsets on the market. Models beginning with the number "3" are representatives of the first generation, with the number "4" — the second generation, etc.

Individual chipset models differ in comparison to each other, among others, in the number of PCI Express lanes, USB ports, SATA connectors, as well as supported technologies. The table below shows these differences.[1][2][3]

Model PCI Express (PCIe) USB:
3.1 Gen 2 + 3.1 Gen 1 + 2.0
SATA + SATA Express[lower-alpha 1] RAID AMD StoreMI Precision Boost Overdrive Processor overclocking TDP Market segment
PCIe lanes CrossFire SLI
X570 PCIe 4.0 ×16 Yes Yes 8 + 0 + 4 12 0, 1, 10 Yes Yes Yes ~15 W[4][5] Performance / Enthusiast
X470 PCIe 2.0 ×8 2 + 6 + 6 4 + 2 ~5 W[6]
X370 No No
B450 PCIe 2.0 ×6 No 2 + 2 + 6 2 + 1 Yes Yes Mainstream
B350 No No
A320 PCIe 2.0 ×4 No 1 + 2 + 6 No Entry level
  1. Each SATA Express port can be divided into 2 SATA ports.

The 300 and 400 series Chipsets are designed in collaboration with ASMedia.[7] The X570 is designed by AMD with IP licensed from ASMedia and other companies.[8] Network interface controller, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth are provided by external chips connected to the chipset through PCIe or USB. All 300/400 series chipsets are made using 55 nm lithography.[9]
