| 40px | This is a documentation subpage for Template:Cite. It contains usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
This template is for citing sources.
For a list of citation templates, see Wikipedia:Citation templates.
The use of citation templates is recommended, but not mandatory. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for the relevant style guidelines.
Please consider using specific citation templates before using this general template.
Example:
Code:
{{cite
|author=Fred Bloggs
|title=A book
|publisher=A Publisher
|date=2004-07-31 }}
Result:
- Fred Bloggs (2004-07-31), A book, A Publisher
Note: Since "the date" is a single parameter in the code, the ISO 8601 date format (YYYY-MM-DD) should be used; something like date=July 31, 2004 doesn't work correctly.
