Usage

This template should be placed on the main page of the article.

Fill in the parameters as you would for the standard citation templates such as {{cite encyclopedia}}. The difference is that this template will fill in some of the parameters for you; and if you provide volume number and page number it will automatically link to the correct page in the volumes at the internet archive web site.

Pre set parameters

|first= Hugh James
|last= Rose
|author-link= Hugh James Rose
|year= 1857
|location= London
|publisher= B. Fellowes et al

Partially set parameters

|title=dictionary article title – if name is not set then it defaults to A New General Biographical Dictionary
|encyclopaedia=A New General Biographical Dictionary — if title not set then it does not display

If volume number is set

|volume=volume number – if set add the name ranges to the volume number
|url=set by volume number and page[s] number — if volume number is not set then defaults to volume 1;
                                if page or pages is not set will default to the first page of the volume.
                                The url parameter can be overwritten with a passed in value

Optional paramters:

|page=number — see Help:CS1
|pages=numbernumber — see Help:CS1
|ref= — see Help:CS1
|mode= — see Help:CS1

Attribution

see:WP:PLAGIARISM

If the Wikipedia article contains text copied from A New General Biographical Dictionary it must be attributed as describe in the plagiarism guideline. To do this surround the template {{Cite Newgenbio}} with {{source-attribution}}:

{{source-attribution|{{Cite Newgenbio |title=Aagard |volume=1 |page=1}} }}

It will appear thus:

  • This article incorporates text from a publication now in the public domain: Rose, Hugh James (1857). "Aagard". A New General Biographical Dictionary. 1 AA–ANS. London: B. Fellowes et al. p. 1.
