Course description

WMST 250 is an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of women’s studies with special focus on the arts and humanities. The course aims to develop your skills in analysing and critiquing cultural texts, particularly their representations of women and their assumptions about gender, race, class, sexuality, and other categories of identity. It also introduces you to the cultural production of a range of women artists from different backgrounds, working in many different mediums and genres. It explores some of the differences among women, as well as connections and affiliations among them as creative workers in the arts.

This assignment in particular will familiarize students with knowledge production and sharing online, placed in context with the historical erasure of women cultural producers.

Article banners

Articles should be marked on their talk page so that other editors on Wikipedia know the article is the subject of a current educational project. To do so, add the following code at the top of the talk page for each article:

{{WAP assignment|course=Template:Course page|university={{{university}}}|term={{{term}}}|project={{{project}}}}}

This code will result in the following banner: Template:WAP assignment

This banner makes it easier for instructors and ambassadors to track article, as well as informs other editors that a student is working on the page as part of their project.

Remember, DO NOT create the talk page until the article itself has been created. Orphaned talk pages (pages without their associated page) qualify for Speedy Deletion.

Usage

This template is designed to walk teachers through the creation of a standardized Wikipedia assignment course page, with step by step instructions for building the course page. To begin, the template should be placed on a new subpage of Wikipedia:Ambassadors/Courses, e.g., Wikipedia:Ambassadors/Courses/Example course.

This template takes the following parameters. term and done, at least, should be defined. The others are optional.

  1. term: the year and quarter in which the course begins. For example, a course beginning in September 2011 would have term = 2011 Q3. This parameter is used for categorizing the course page and the student articles that are tagged with the standard assignment banner.
  2. university: the university, college or other educational institution for the class, e.g., Georgetown University
  3. project: the name of a WikiProject focused on topics related to the course, e.g., WikiProject Law
  4. region: the number of the region in which the course takes place, for United States courses
  5. done: when done is set to "no", the course page will display a todo list indicating the remaining steps in the course page creation process

The parameters can be added before or after the course page is fully built.

Example

{{course page
|term = 2011 Q3
|university = Georgetown University
|project = WikiProject Law
|region = 6
|done = no
}}
