In 2019, Louis Vuitton was named the world's most valuable luxury BrandZ, as it is grew 15 percent in brand value over the past year and now worth $47.2 billion.[2] The brand currently operates 460 stores worldwide with 121,289 total employees.
Controversy
In July 2014, Oliver Koffi, former employees of Louis Vuitton's shop in London sued the brand over racist remarks, said the manager of the shop told an African employee that “Black people are slaves who eat dirt off the floor”, among other choice remarks about various races and religions. Koffi alleges that these comments were made in a "cold and serious" manner and created a “hostile and intimidating” working environment, though the manager later claimed to have been joking.</ref>https://fashionista.com/2014/07/louis-vuitton-lawsuit-racist</ref>
In June 2020, Virgil Abloh, Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton Men's Wear, attracted criticism after posting on social media a screenshot showing he had made a $50 donation to an organization helping with protesters' legal costs when his creations can cost several hundred thousand dollars or even more.[3] Abloh also subsequently said that the looting of the business during George Floyd protests was an example of why "streetwar is dead".[4] He later on apologized on his Instagram regarding the comment he made and clarified that he had donated $20,500 in total and will continue to donating.[5]
