{{DEFAULTSORT:<sort key>}} is a magic word used to apply a sort key to many categories at once. It can be overridden for individual categories applied to an article by manually applying a sort key.

Usage
Use this template to get biographies listed in the correct alphabetical order (by family name).
Do not use this template on pages where there cannot be any question about whether the article title is the correct alphabetical name, such as single-word articles (e.g., Tulips) and articles whose title is already the correct sort (e.g., Tulipa gesneriana).
