Simon Bruce (born 19 May 1985) is an Australian singer-songwriter.

Biography

For a singer-songwriter who music journalists will dare to call "emerging", 21-year-old Simon Bruce has the poise and musical smarts of someone twice his age. This dark-haired young man is a rare find; he both knows his history and respects it, AND as evidenced by his debut album Restless Thoughts, he's not afraid to use it.

After playing the 2002 South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas (the youngest ever musician to be invited there), Simon was granted an Outstanding Talent Visa, where he spent much of his time touring the east and west coast including a high-profile support slot with John Hiatt, and the greater part of 2004 in Nashville. Simon has certainly road-tested his original compositions with tons of live performances, including stints with DIDO and Bond.

Which brings us then to the most recent chapter in Simon Bruce already-remarkable life, the making of his album "Restless Thoughts", which follows on the footsteps of his successful independently-released EP "The Champagne Sessions", which was produced by Tommy Emmanuel and featured Keith Urban on backing vocals.

Recorded live in just 3 days, (a method the young performer is adamant he will never change), Bruce's debut album, Restless Thoughts, was laid to tape, "like in the 70s", Simon says.

At heart, "Restless Thoughts" is all about strong songs big on melody, playing filled with both contemporary spark and a strong sense of history, and lyrics that belie their creator's tender years. "Dylan to me is definitely what got me into words, made me want to think and write from different angles", says Bruce. I believe if you can carry the song by yourself with a guitar, that when you go in [to the studio], you're on", proffers Simon of the recording process. And that's very much the feeling which prevails on Restless Thoughts, an exceptional debut album which will appeal to music fans around the world, while sacrificing nothing in crossover appeal. "I may be young but I ain't no rookie," Simon Bruce sings on Turn Myself To Driftin. When you get to that part of Restless Thoughts, be sure to turn it up real loud! Seldom have truer words been spoken.
